Why are we doing this work?

Over the last decade, the UK has been defined by growing inequality, increased polarisation and the rise of populism. Brexit gave the country a jolt. COVID-19 has shaken us to our core. Many are now aware that others have violently different experiences of the UK. We clap passionately for strangers on our doorsteps yet we may not know our neighbours. We exist in entirely different worlds on the same small island.

The Roots Programme seeks to counter this by supporting instances of radical connection. We connect people, issues and communities – deepening our understanding of ourselves in relation to the lives of others.
